I called this a humidifier because that is what it is called on the inventory. However, it is also known as an evaporative cooler, which I think in the USA is known as a "swamp cooler".
There is hole through which you pour water. There is a tray in which you put ice. You connect it to electricity and blow air over the ice and water and the place cools down and the air becomes more moist.
More pleasant all round. I might also get a pedestal fan just in case.

They work superbly in dry places but just make things worse when humidity is high. I think Sydney is somewhere in between so will be kinda effective.
Are you enjoying the dust today? I think the worst of it is now on it's way to you. The windows are all filthy and light rain has fallen so now a dusty splattered mess through which to view the wind tossing the trees. Makes me glad our home is well sealed so still fresh and clean inside.
Except that being an asthmatic, droplets in the air is not good. And I am a very light sleeper, so if this engine is clunky the machine is for the high jump ...
I will test it out ...
I Have one of this at my office and its really very effective !!Unseen Rajasthan
We've still got the heater on down here.
I am currently lying prostrate in front of said heater - experiencing my second bout of flu within a month (b#stard).
Had to cancel our trip up the WA coast - so I read tim winton's breath, instead!
Which bits of Tassie are you going to? Is it a drive around trip or stay in one place trip? (i'm very jealous).
Yes, well let me know. My "office" (nothing more than a back porch with walls and windows really) is cut off from the rest of the house and gets really hot. Picture me sweating over my blog posts.
My ex- read this yesterday and he has three fans in his garage one of which now has my name on't. I suspect I will combine the two. When February rolls around I will be discussing this again!
I like little nooks like what you describe ... walled in porches.
Mine is the opposite version - with a 5-gallon bucket to collect the moisture. It's going to get a workout for at least the next 5 days.
