Winter winds doth blow

As I have mentioned before, I live in a narrow one-way street, about 100m in length with a very large verge down one side. The dominant natural feature is two very large trees, oaks I think but I would be guessing.

This week my street looks like this. I thought it worth capturing as today the winter winds blow up from the south and I expect all these leaves to have gone within another week: even those still on the trees.

Leaves still looking like they have just fallen rather than a soggy mess. I'm surprised. They must be very late dropping their leaf.

Mind you some oaks hang unto a good proportion of their dead leaves through most of the winter and only fully shed when their new spring growth comes through.

It has been delightful for nigh on two weeks now: leaves and many of them, fluttering all the time. By morning there is a pile of leaf about 4" think against the windscreen.

However, no sooner had I posted this than 3 of Clover's gardeners came with their wide brooms and swept both path and road. Eventually a gardener will come, rake them into piles and put them into sacks which eventually get put onto a truck. Clover likes to keep the customer satisfied!!
