Winter winds doth blow

As I have mentioned before, I live in a narrow one-way street, about 100m in length with a very large verge down one side. The dominant natural feature is two very large trees, oaks I think but I would be guessing.

This week my street looks like this. I thought it worth capturing as today the winter winds blow up from the south and I expect all these leaves to have gone within another week: even those still on the trees.

A thing of beauty

An offering for those of you who prefer their beauty from a classical mould.

A perfume from the past

This is my newly planted Daphne which I suspect will flower this coming spring. It is such a compact flower: full of self-control that presents itself just-so. And yet it emits this overwhelmingly profuse perfume.

I like that in a plant: the hidden whammy.

Sensual flesh of the staghorn

Slowly a young, velvety horn has sloughed over the old.

Sprayette

These are probably going to die from kindness! I have tied them up and moved them into a bit of winter warmth. Wanted to put them on the front porch but thought that could be tempting fate. This is the orchid with three sprays - whereas the image on 18th May is of the speciment with only one flower spike.

I think both these will need to be separated (is that the word?) during the off-season.

Hee hee hee hee hee ... this is sooo exciting ...

Beauty is sodden and cold

Crepe Myrtles had just been planted along the footpath when I moved in three years ago. This is their first brilliant flash of leaf colour.

I love wet, foggy winter mornings - even if I have to trudge off to work!
